Mass Transit..... Concept Design and Refurbishment
Piccadilly Underground 1973 stock was the largest refurbishment contract released at the time.
The programme called for complete removal of all existing interior and exterior equipment leaving only the aluminium shell and bogies, then extensive design and development were required to produce what can now be seen on Piccadilly tube stock today.
Labyrinth Developments built up a 30 strong team to support London Underground Ltd requirements to design and manage the interior.
Labyrinth's management skills was employed for the main liaison between the manufacturer RFS, LUL and the independent styling house Warwick Design. Labyrinth ensured that all safety requirements and material selections were within the strict LUL specifications. This was a difficult process due to the massive legislation changes following the King's Cross rail disaster.
Labyrinth controlled and developed all interior and exterior concepts to replicate early aesthetics previously developed and agreed with the LUL/Warwick Design partnership. This was achieved on a bi-weekly basis with agreed milestones.
